Accepting and embracing who you are

Confidence is so hard to gain when you’re living with a disability. The Condition that i suffer from is very progressive and can be aggressive when it takes the hold of you. I continuously have had to adapt to new physical restrictions. I have struggled and I’am still struggling with body issues and insecurities. I still to this day find it hard to express myself unless its on paper, i can never seem to get anything out and people around me are just as frustrated as me.I think that’s why  I’m so emotional because I’am so emotionally frustrated.

I always think that there are people out there that has worse things to deal with  and I’m forever grateful for the life i do live even if its not what I particularly wanted for myself.

I have lost  mobility in my neck, in my shoulders and hips. I also have bony lumps on my back. FOP isn’t as aggressive now as it used to be in my teenage years. It was particularly bad from age 10 – age 17, that was when I lost the most mobility and that was also the  hardest time of my life.

us

I Never really realised how difficult it was for my parents to see me so able bodied, and carefree when I was younger, knowing that FOP would gradually progress and someday leave me feeling trapped in my own body. Now that I’m older i can understand the heartache that they must feel everyday seeing fop take more and more mobility away from not one daughter but two. I always said they can never feel the physical pain that we go through but they feel everything.

zoe

Living with FOP is so scary and you never know what you are going to wake up to, but I’am determined to try and keep a positive mindset and  attitude despite everything I’m faced with. I try to always find joy in the little things in life and notice the smallest of achievements.( This could mean finding a way to put my top on without asking for help) People take things for granted every single day, but don’t realise until that thing is took away from them. Even i take things for granted.

Fop has taken so much away from me, but I can’t imagine my life without it. I see it as a kind of blessing in disguise, not a complete tragedy or misfortune. It has led me to, lifelong friendships, strength, hope, determination,  happiness and Kindness

I get frustrated with the things i used to be able to do and now can’t because of injuries, bone growth and quite possibly arthritis. Oh and of course FOP.

I’m thankful i get to share my journey with my twin sister, she understands everything i go through on a daily basis and i for sure would be so lost without her

Favourite moisturisers for dry skin

Hello my lovelies,

I would really  like to be getting two blog posts up a week but this is my first for in a few weeks, so hard to find the time to sit down and write a blog post. Today i will be talking to you all about the moisturisers that have worked wonders on my skin and some that haven’t really done anything and i wouldn’t buy again.

I’m on medication that gives you extremely dry skin and i have tried so many different brands and some have been highly disappointing and don’t do what it says on the bottle.

I have 3 high street moisturisers and 3 high end moisturisers, so something to fit everyone’s bank balance.

mostu

I really like this and it  helps my dry skin on my legs especially, it restores and is very fast acting. I would buy this again and again.  E45 Dermatological Intense Recovery

mosturiser

I got this in Paris when i was over there for the clinical trials because my skin went mad with the humidity. It smells delicious. only down side is, it doesn’t really replenish and restore my skin. Rêve de Miel® Ultra Comfort

most

( This non-greasy cream from Aveeno, formulated with colloidal oatmeal, helps prevent water loss from your skin by rebuilding the skin’s natural barrier. Aveeno Moisturising Cream has a fast absorption time that makes it convenient for use during the day. ) I wouldn’t say i agree with this, it takes a very long time to sink in to your skin. I wont use it again because they test on animals and I’m truly against any brand who continue to test on animals.

mosturi

My all time favourite, and guess what? it has been discontinued!! 😦 😦 It was so thick and creamy and so sensitive for my dry skin. NUDE SKIN CARE

mostur

So because i cant rub anything in to my legs, i thought id give this a try and it smells divine but i wouldn’t really recommend it. Although saying that it might suit someone else’s skin. Vaseline Intensive Care

17160892_10212497341570866_903546439_n

I have just recently started to use this brand Skinician and i really really love it.  It smells so fresh and it does what it says on the tube, so cliche i know. It hydrates and restores my skin. I was so excited to try this brand as i know so many people rave about it. I also use the cleanser and toner, its so amazing, if you haven’t tried it  YOU NEED TO.

I know two places that stock this brand,

In Ballymena and in Coleraine

The therapy rooms at Rosspark hotel

Samantha’s Beauty room Coleraine

Michael’s Birthday – This guy deserves everything, he does so much and puts so much effort in to everything. I wanted to show how much i appreciated him and put together a little tea party to acknowledge his birthday. We also went out for a meal together, we decided on the Royal Court Portrush.  I think he enjoyed it. We are going to Edinburgh in a few weeks, it was Michael’s birthday present but we are going to be in Edinburgh over my birthday, see what i did there ha ha. If anyone has any suggestions for what we should do leave them in the comments.

Debenhams SS17 press launch

Hello my loves,

Its been a week since my last post as i have been sick all week with a horrible ear infection.

On the Tuesday 31st January myself and the NI blogging girls traveled to Dublin for the #DebsSS17 fashion show and press launch. It was so exciting as it was my first time going to anything like this. I was actually invited to help my sister whom has a disability and needed my help as she didn’t want to burden the other girls. I didn’t mind at all, that’s what sisters do right?  It actually motivated me to start my own blog and start posting more on my Instagram, so here i am.

We were kindly contacted and invited to the event a couple of weeks prior and the organizing that went in to planning that one day was second to none. We were picked up at Belfast central by Belfast mini coaches who got us to Dublin and back in one piece, so thank you for all your patience.

It was really nice to actually meet bloggers from NI and i didn’t feel out of place because we were all in to the same thing and were there for the same reason which to me made it a lot easier. I have made a few new friends through this event and they are awesome. We have already decided that we are going to do more blogger meet ups. I think that’s exciting.

On the bus i sat beside zoe ( Her blog ) because we are sisters and see each other all the time we didn’t have much to talk about ha ha.

Though we chatted to Tracey Sharkey nearly the entire time and she honestly is the nicest person. she helped both Zoe and myself the whole day. If you ever need a personal shopper go to Marks and Spencer’s and ask for Tracey an you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait to go and get the personal shopper feel. This is a picture of Tracey, Zoe and myself  kindly took by the event photographer Kieran Harnett tracey-zoe

On arrival to Debenham’s on Henry Street we were then greeted by Kelly who had been the initial contact, she was so lovely and friendly. she made us all feel so welcome and comfortable from start to finish. We then went upstairs and seen that they had put the most gorgeous food out for us. How delicious does this look??

foood

As we were eating Kelly handed us all an envelope which inside was a €50 voucher to spend in the store. I thought that was so nice. I didn’t have time to spend mine that day but i’m already planning another trip down to use it.  of course they’ll be a blog post to follow.

My self,Zoe and Tracey thought we would try get to the Rotunda Hospital before all the rush as Zoe is on crutches its hard for her when there is so many people. We got there and at first i thought it was a strange place to hold a fashion show, and i think everyone else was thinking that too. The fashion show took place in the Pillar room which was a lovely building, full of Character. The Event was sponsored by Gunpowder Irish Gin they provided everyone with Fresh gin and tonics. I don’t particularly like gin but hey at least i tried it.

Zoe and I pondered over to the balm cosmetics and they handed us a lovely bag and inside was their batter up eye shadow stick which just glides on and is amazingly pigmented. i got the shade ‘Dug out’

Here is a swatch on my hand.

swatch

Then it was time for the main event, the one that we had been waiting all day for, the fashion show! I was so very impressed by the clothes  on display from Debenhams. As a woman who does shop at Debenham’s their Spring/Summer 17 pieces are gorgeous. I’m getting married next year so the wedding guest and occasion outfits took my attention more than the others. It has  given me some inspiration for my own wedding, The floral crowns were amazing i’m so glad they are just as popular this year for weddings.

Overall I was really  impressed with what Debenham’s has to offer for spring/summer 2017. The pieces on display at the event would suit a wide range of people, i was blown away with the wedding gowns and couldn’t believe they were high street, they definitely looked  far more expensive.  I had the best time at this event and met lovely lovely people i get to call my friends now. Big thank you to Debenham’s for this opportunity.

I just love the back detail on this dress. so gorgeous 🙂 Debut dress £140

Below are a few of the pictures that i took of the fashion show.

Thanks for reading. Hope you have a great weekend and week ahead.

EEK first ever blog post

Welcome to my first blog post, i guess should introduce myself.

I’m Lucy. Originally from South Yorkshire but currently living in Northern Ireland.

I lived in Ballymena for 18 years, i now live in a small coastal town called Portstewart and to be fair its so gorgeous.

I have a passion for baking, cooking and anything for the home.

I was born with a medical condition called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva or FOP for short.  I’ll post a small definition here –  FOP is a disorder in which muscle tissue and connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments are gradually replaced by bone (ossified), forming bone outside the skeleton (extra-skeletal or heterotopic bone) that constrains movement. This process generally becomes noticeable in early childhood, starting with the neck and shoulders and proceeding down the body and into the limbs. As horrible as this sounds i never let it stop  me from doing things i want to do. I just need to be extra careful doing day to day things.

I’m Engaged to Michael due to get married in July 2018. Together we have a ginger tom called Gulliver and we love him even though hes a rascal.. but lets face it who’s pets aren’t. ha ha.

Here is a picture of my two loves  ❤my-loves

lots of love Lucy x
